The continuing education programmes at the Institute of Preservation and Construction History (IDB) address the challenge of training experts in the area of preservation. In addition to collaborations with several partner institutions from different disciplines, the programmes distinguish themselves in particular by the focus on applied preservation. In addition to a four-semester MAS, two one-semester CAS are offered.

The teaching of subject-specific and decision-making skills make the interdisciplinary programme in preservation and construction history unique in Switzerland. The programme focusses on the identification and evaluation of existing qualities. Participants will gain in-depth understanding and awareness for maintaining both existing heritage as well as not-protected high-quality heritage objects. In addition to the fundamental knowledge and positions on preservation, sustainable approaches to the further use of existing resources and holistic processes for their long-term preservation are presented.

The MAS is a further education programme aimed at university graduates who would like to contribute to the preservation of the architectural heritage by acquiring additional skills.
